Disney Re-Boots Haunted Mansion

Seven years ago, Disney gave Eddie Murphy a crack at a Haunted Mansion flick, now it’s Guillermo del Toro’s turn.

Seven years ago, Disney gave Eddie Murphy a crack at turning Disney’s popular Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland into a movie. That didn’t turn out so well. Now it is Guillermo del Toro’s turn. After turning away from directing “The Hobbit”, del Toro says he will take on the reins for Disney’s HM project [which will not include Murphy] and produce a new film which he says will be true to both the Disney ride’s family and scary roots with a specific nod to the Hatbox Ghost.

The film will be shot in 3D and live-action and no release date has yet been set.
