Actually the game is very real, with very real talent working behind it. It is an "inspired by" title, without an endorsement from Fox. Fox legal is fully aware of the project, even wishing them luck, with the knowledge that it is not a game "based on Firefly" but an "inspired by" title.

While we do not have an endorsement from Fox, the team has been "wished well" by Fox’s legal department.
